All that we can do, is smile

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that one of the reasons why my face has been a little absent from my blog was the current state of my skin.
I think a lot of it was to do with the fact that I've recently come of the pill, which tends to help with outbreaks. It's calmed down a little now, but I'm still getting random little whiteheads and outbreaks, I'm sure this is supposed to have stopped by now, I'm nearly 24!
Lots of you have told me I have lovely skin, but you should know that I wear a ton of make up, I can't leave the house without concealer and foundation. I even wear make-up when I go running. Without it, my confidence is ziltch. nada. zero. I even hate taking my make up off infront of my boyfriend every night, and going make-up free for the beach on holiday. If I went to my office tomorrow with no make-up on, no one would even recognize me.
So I've decided to try and take a few steps in the right direction to try and improve my skin, I'm so sick of it affecting my mood, I really want to change my attitude towards it. I'm going to try and drink a litre and a half of water every day, eat healthier and change my skincare routine (which basically consists of face-wipes at the moment, I know you'll all tell me off for this).
I bought this Clinique '1,2,3 Step' cleanse, tone and moisturize set. I bought the starter pack which was £20 just to see if it agrees with me. I've been using it for 2 weeks now, I'm not really sure if it's made a massive difference to my skin if I'm honest. I don't know if I'll go for the full size bottles yet, I don't really like the smell of the cleanser and moisturizer is pretty hard to get out of the bottle. I don't know why they put it in a hard plastic bottle, surely a squeezy tube makes more sense?!
Do any of you have confidence issues with your skin? What products have you tried that have helped? Have you tried Clinique 1,2,3 Step?

  1. I can totally relate to this. Im 30 and come off the pill last year, after over 10 years of taking it. My skin is still in a terrible place, and I fear nothing will ever completely stop these pesky spots from appearing :( I have started taking fish oils (on the recco of Caroline Hirons) so Im hoping this will have an effect. I hope you find something that works for you! x

    1. oh fish oils, i didn't know that would help. I'll try it, thank you! yea I think it's just hormones playing havoc from the pill still. Hope you find something that works too :) xxx

  2. I use clinique I love it I have all these products and they work for me. You may need to get a skin consultation at the clinique counter they're really good and they match your skin to the products they have. Hope your skin improves! xx

  3. I love the Clinique 3 step system! If you can get past the smell it can work wonders. I ran out about 2 months ago and I decided to try a new routine and my skin suffered without it. I rarely use the cleanser though and use Liz Earle cleanse and polish so for me it was trial and error. I think as this is the trial version the moisturiser is in this bottle because my one had the same sort of bottle but a little pump at the top. This might be because I use 3 which is more for combination skin and the moisturiser is more of a gel formula (and smells way better) and therefore the pump is handy for it.

  4. Hi, I'm just like you and my confidence has taken a dent because of not so great skin! Mine's because I've just started 'the injection' and those hormones have played havoc with me! I've been using the Murad range which is specifically targetting for acne prone skin and I'm very slowly starting to see results from it. But stick with what you're using for a bit longer as most people say it takes weeks before a new routine starts to take effect! No matter what try not to let it get you down though beautiful :) xx

    1. aw thank you lovely. I think I'll stick with it for a few more weeks and then try something new. It's such a pain being a girl and having to fill yourelf up with hormones that make you crazy! aaah! I've not heard of Murad range, but I'll deffo research it! xxxx

  5. I'm sure a lot of girls can relate to what you're saying about makeup and confidence! But good for you for taking steps to improve your skin's natural state. I recently blogged about how wearing less makeup actually improved my skin a lot... it's really hard for the first couple of days, but it makes such a huge long-term difference that it's worth it! Plus, being able to just roll out of bed and not worry about "putting your face on" is such a good feeling!

  6. i totally understand how you feel, and i give you a huge thumbs up for even being able to talk about it so openly! thanks for sharing your feelings with us, you are definitely not alone! i've been trying more deep cleansing products too - my goal is to be comfortable enough with no concealer. i've tried the clinique 3 step too but i think the toner especially is a bit too strong for my skin. my next product on my skincare wishlist that i'm going to try out is the neutrogena 2-in-1 deep cleansing cleanser/mask, hopefully it helps!

by the way, i did a really cute tag on my blog and tagged you... :) give it a go if you feel like it, i found it really fun to do!

  7. Put the wipes down, Hannah! Sorry to hear it honey, I get bad skin too...I've never tried the Clinique 3 step, there always seems to be such split views on it. Maybe you could try organic skincare next time, that might help? xx

  9. My number one tip is to drink lots of water, no sodas and sugary drinks at all, clean your face before bed, no touching your face with dirty hands .. and so on :)
And you are so incredibly pretty! Can't stop looking at your picture :D (creepy I know :D) Sorry. :P

  11. I got myself a mini trial kit of Clinique's 1,2,3 Step last year and I agree with you, I think this hasn't made any difference to my skin even after 4 weeks of constant use! A little does go a long way though so if it helps anyones skin it's definitely worth buying but personally I wouldn't repurchase any of the items. Soap&Glory's face, soap&clarity and scrub your nose in it have helped my skin a lot though so maybe give them a try if you haven't already! :) loving your blog by the way! xx

  12. Thank you for sharing :-) As you said, hopefully it's just your hormones settling down after coming off the pill - although the pill itself is great at reducing spots/acne. Have you tried using Sudocrem or Benzoyl Peroxide? They're probably the best non-prescription products you can get. Use either of them at night - they're a little too white and thick for the day! I did write a blog post about my own experience and whilst I don't want to shamelessly self-promote, I thought you might be interested in it: http://blog.skintroductions.com/2012/09/5-step-approach-to-acne-treatment.html

    1. yes, i am a huge fan of sudocream, i just wish i didnt have to use it hehe Havent tried Benzoyl Peroxide though, it sounds scary but I may as well give it a bash.
oh no, don't be silly, deinitely something I'm interested in. I'll go and take a look hun, thank you x

  13. Aww I know the feeling too well!

Benzoyl Peroxide is good, but it can make your skin peel, so I would recommend applying a very small amount on the affected areas first and building up each evening there after. Apply before your moisturiser and personally I would only apply at night. You can buy it over the counter in like boots start at maybe a 2% or 5% and see how your skin reacts from that maybe?

Hope you feel better about your skin soon

  14. When I had problems with my skin during uni, I found that my diet and what I was eating had a MAJOR impact on it's condition! I decided to go on a sort of 'healthy eating' journey with my friend for a while and it really, really helped to just clear things up a bit which was great. And of course, eating healthy is great for you health in general too. I recently tried the clinique 1,2,3 step too but found it was quite harsh for my skin.. I dunno if you found that? I'm itching to try Liz Earle's skin care regime though - I've heard great things about it :)
